Performance Parts
Performance parts for your car are designed to enhance some aspect of your vehicle. Some are body modifications which seek to alter the aerodynamic properties of your vehicle. Modifications of this type include spoilers, enlarged intake vents, hood scoops, and other exterior parts.
Other performance parts go inside your car. Some wind up in the cabin, such as a steering wheel or shifter. Less common, but more important to the performance of a high end vehicle is a racing computer. These computers monitor things like the engine temperature, and pressure, fuel consumption, air intake, among other things. They can actually adjust things like the fuel/air ratio while a driver is still driving. They are also included in most vehicles that run a nitrous oxide boost system. The computer ensures that using the nitrous doesn’t damage the engine integrity.
While there are definitely exterior and cabin side performance parts, the largest segment of them by far go either under the hood or in the exhaust, drive train, or steering sections of the car. Engine upgrades can include a super or turbo charger, a fuel injection system, air intakes, and cam shaft modifications. The handling can be upgraded with shocks, struts, tie rods, and even wheels or tires. These types of parts tend to have a greater impact on a car’s performance than say… a new steering wheel.
